To turn a computer into a router, you have to download a boot image
file with BBIagent Setup Wizard based on the hardware configuration
of the computer and the connection protocol you're using, and write
the file to a 1.44MB floppy diskette or burn it into a CD-ROM. You also
need to download BBIagent Explorer for router administration.
BBIagent Setup Wizard and Explorer are Java-based applications.
They can be started in a Java-enabled web browser, launched with
Java Network Launching Protocol (JNLP) or run as standalone under
Java runtime environment.
If your browser or computer does not support Java applications,
you may download Java Runtime
Environment (JRE version 1.4 or above) from Sun Microsystems Inc.
|
| 1. Create and download
a boot image file |
|
|
BBIagent Setup Wizard can be launched
by clicking one of following links. It helps you to create
the boot image step by step. At the end, click download button and
save it as a file (e.g. BBIagent.img) in your local hard disk.
|
| Applet |
Click and run it as an
applet in a new window if your web browser is Java-applet enabled.
|
| Plug-in |
Click and run it as a
plug-in in a new window if your web browser supports Java plug-in.
|
| JNLP |
Click and run it with
JNLP if you have installed JNLP software such as JavaTM
Web Start in your computer. You may also execute following command
under console mode,
javaws http://www.BBIagent.Net/BBIsetup.jnlp
|
| JAR |
Download and run it with
following command if your computer can run Java applications.
java -jar BBIsetup.jar
or under MS Windows,
javaw -jar BBIsetup.jar
|
|
|
|
| 2. Create a boot diskette or bootable CR-ROM |
|
|
If you boot up your router with floopy,
prepare a 1.44MB formatted diskette and
make sure that there is no bad sector in it. Write the boot image
you downloaded into the diskette with one of following software tools.
|
RawWrite for Windows
if you write it under MS Windows,
rawrite.exe if you
write it under DOS
or execute following command under Linux/Unix,
dd if=BBIagent.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1k
where BBIagent.img is the file name of your boot image and /dev/fd0
the device name of 1.44MB floppy driver.
If your router is booted up with CD-ROM, burn the ISO bootable image you downloaded into a CDROM.
|
| 3. Download BBIagent
Explorer for router administration |
|
Download
BBIagent Explorer (BBIagent.jar)
and save it to your local hard disk. After the router is booted up
with the diskette you created, make sure you can ping the IP address
of the router and launch BBIagent Explorer with following command
for administration,
java -jar BBIagent.jar -r 192.168.2.1
or under MS Windows,
javaw -jar BBIagent.jar -r 192.168.2.1
where 192.168.2.1 is the IP address of the router.
If you would like to launch it with a web browser, open the home page
of the router with its URL (e.g. http://192.168.2.1) . Upload BBIagent.jar
into the router and then it can be launched with the browser as Java
applet or plug-in or started with JNLP.
If you cannot connect the router with BBIagent Explorer or open the
home page of the router, refer to the Installation
Guide of BBIagent Router. |
